Why Choose an ACE?

It is both an honor and a privilege to be called an A.C.E. It was long hours of work, but it is
the best way I know to show my commitment to my customers, the pest control industry,
and to myself. At present I am one of a couple hundred ACE’s in the nation.  That is a very
select group of professionals with less than 400 people having achieved this certification
in the nation and only approximately 50 in Texas (and that is out of 12,656 licensed Pest
Control Professionals in Texas.

In today's increasingly complex and highly-specialized economy, credentials are
everything. The Entomological Society of America, long the industry leader in certification
through its Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) program, is pleased to announce a new
certification option geared specifically toward the pest management industry. Launched in
May of 2004, the ACE program is rapidly becoming the industry-standard for
professionalism and training.

Associate Certified Entomologists (ACEs) are those who have passed at least one of the
most  rigorous examination to test their knowledge. They generally specialize in pest
control. ACEs also agree to ascribe to a code of ethical behavior, and – as part of their
certification renewal process – must annually provide a copy of their current pesticide
applicator's license.

Insects outnumber humans more than 1.6 billion to one. They are one of the most plentiful
and successful life forms on the planet and they are the cornerstone of our ability to
survive on earth. Consider the number of crops that require insect interaction for
pollination, the life forms that use them as a food source, the knowledge we have gained
from studying their DNA, and so on. Insects are the root of all life on earth.

Those who study insects are called entomologists. Within the field there are many ways
that a person can specialize their training. Some study insects’ impact on crop yields,
some study the medical impact they have on humans and other animals, and still others
focus on ways to limit the damaging influence that insects can have on the population.
